Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has expressed his excitment after fifa named him among the world under 17 legends.
Odartey masterminded Ghana’s triumph in the juvenile World Cup in 1991 where he won the best player of the tournament and was named by Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pele) as his apparent heir
The ex-Anderlect, PSV and Aston Villa star he is elated as the world football governing body has remembered him for the good work he has done in football.
“I am very happy as FIFA have remembered what I did. Looking at the pain we went through to win that tournament, it was not easy as some of us chose between football and school,”Odartey told footballmadeinghana.com
“The dedication and the hard work is what is yielding fruits today and I can say I’m very excited that FIFA remembered my good work and they celebrating me ”
Odartey became the first Ghanaian player to win an individual award in a FIFA Tournament.
