Accra, Aug 2, GNA - New Head coach of Sekondi Hasaacas tasted his first defeat in the Premiership since taking over as helmsman a month ago when his boys lost 1-3 to Okwawu United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The former Olympics coach won his first two matches against Brong Ahafo United and Obuasi Goldfields respectively and drew against Oly. But he was unlucky against the soccer mountaineers who shot ahead in the 36th minute.
Playmaker Elvis Opoku fetched the opener with an intelligent deceptive chip in the six-yard box. Goalkeeper Ekow Ampiah was expecting an in swinger from an acute angle but Opoku cleverly chipped a low grounder to beat the goalie.
Hasmal pulled level with a gifted goal three minutes later after a terrible piece of goalkeeping by Duada Fatawu. The goalie was confused with a miss kick from one of his defenders and instead of parrying the ball over the crossbar; he surprisingly punched the ball onto the path of Fiifi Kesson, who headed it into the net.
Okwawu, now placed on the 14th position from the 16-club league table with nine points, moved into top gear after recess, scoring two important goals to snatch the three maximum points at stake. Mohammed Polo increased the tally with a beautiful header in the 62nd minute while Opoku made victory certain five minutes later from a spot kick.
Richard Afriyie had a golden opportunity of reducing the goal difference for Hasaacas in the 80th minute but he fired off target with only the goalkeeper to beat. 02 Aug 2003.
