Following the upcoming U23 AFCON Tournament to be hosted in Egypt, former Asante Kotoko coach CK Akonnor has replaced Ibrahim Tanko on the technical team of the Black Stars, footballmadeinghana.com understands.
FootballMadeInGhana.com understands that the former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak coach was in a meeting with the technical team on Wednesday as he accepts to work with Kwasi Appiah.
Goalkeepers’ trainer Ricahrd Kingson and Technical Coordinator Stephen Appiah maintained their positions on the technic al team despite rumours that they have been sacked.
The move for Akonnor’s appointment is to allow Coach Tanko focus on his role as head coach of the Black Meteors as he prepares the team for the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations in Egypt next month.
Ghana will open their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers campaign with South Africa on November 14th.
Three days later, the Black Stars will fly out to face Sao Tome and Principe in their second Group C fixture.
Coach Akonnor was one of the coaches shortlisted for the Guinea national team job but he missed out after an interview.
He has been unattached after his contact with Ghana Premier League side was abrogated.
Coach Akonnor has vast experience in coaching with his stint at top Ghana Premier League clubs namely Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, Ashanti Gold SC, Asante Kotoko and relegated club Sekondi Eleven Wise.
