Ghana international goalkeeper Richard Kingson has quit relegated English side Birmingham City.

Kingson's decision to leave the club comes just two days after club co-owner David Sullivan accused him of being a 'waste of space.'

The 29-year-old, who played only three matches for the club this season, is not keen on sitting on the bench in the English Championship next season.

He called a meeting with the club officials on Thursday to discuss his future but coach Alex McLeish was not keen on guaranteeing him first team place.

Kingson opted to quit the club and an agreement on a compensation package was reached for the Ghanaian goalkeeper.

"I am happy that we have reached an agreement for me leave from today," Kingson told Ghanasoccernet.

"My key concern is that I should play first team football and that is what I was demanding as an international player.

"This agreement now allows to join any club I want and hopefully I will announce my next move soon and start a better future."

Manager Alex McLeish confirmed Kingson?s departure on Thursday and voiced his sympathy for the 29-year-old.

"I'm sorry things didn't work out for Richard," McLeish said.

"It's about opinions and we have other plans so for the sake of his first team future, we have let Richard move on."

After moving to the Midlands from Ankaraspor last summer, Kingson appeared just once in The Premier League and twice in the Carling Cup as he gradually became accustomed to being the third-choice goalkeeper at the club.
