Olympics win against Power

Accra, Nov. 3, GNA - A resurgent Great Olympics were too hot for Koforidua-based Power F/C to handle but their two-second half strikes could not move them from the bottom of the standings in group B of the Ghana Telecom sponsored Premier League.

It was the second victory for the Dade boys in 10 matches and are now on eight points, two points behind penultimate club, Feyenoord in the eight-team zonal league with just four matches to go. Oly capitalized on two defensive glitches for John Cudjoe and hard-working attacker Paa Joe Kumah to score the two unanswered goals for the crisis-hit team.

Both goals were classic. Cudjoe fired through a forest of legs in the 55th minute to beat goalkeeper Cudjoe Addo formerly of Liberty Professionals while Kumah dived to control a floated ball before unleashing a thunderbolt five minutes later.

The first half belonged to visiting Power but they failed to translate their dominance into goals while Oly took advantage of their second half supremacy to bang in the needed goals.

The score-line could have been more had Cudjoe, Winfred Dormon and Kobina Dodzi taken their chances.

The rest of the group matches would be honoured on Thursday. Tema Real Sportive welcome in-form, Hearts of Oak at the El-Wak Stadium while Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals play host to Kpando Heart of Lions.

At Cape Coast, Gomoa Fetteh-based Feyenoord recorded their second home victory when they beat Sekondi Hasaacas 3-0 in their Premier league match played at the Cape Coast sports stadium on Wednesday.

Feyenoord playing one of their best games unsettled Hasaacas with their copybook soccer and in the process scored the opener through their midfielder, Iddi Yekini with a header in the 36th minute.

On resumption of the second half, Feyenoord continued to pile pressure on Hasaacas and it came as no surprise when Yekini who played a yeoman's game raised his side's tally to 2-0 in the 64th minute.

Hasaacas nearly reduced the score in the 70th minute but centre half, Anthony Annan's goal bound shot was scooped from the goal line net. Hasaaacas threat propelled Feyenoord once again into more action and it came as no surprise when in the 80th minute, inside right Dominic Adiyah increased their tally to 3-0 to bring the smiles unto the teeming supporters of the Gomoa Fetteh lads.
