One dead in a fight after gala match

Assin Foso (CR), Jan 8, GNA - One person died and another seriously injured when a fight erupted after a football gala match ended abruptly at Assin Ohiahyeda near Assin Foso.

Both the deceased, Kofi Abore and Kwesi Nsor, the injured hail from Kofi Ninsin village near Assin Foso.

The deceased was reported to have died from injuries inflicted on him with sticks by one Akwesi Kwarteng of Akenkansu. Another citizen of Akenkansu, Kweku Ofori is said to have stabbed Nsor, the injured person with a knife during a free-for-all fight after the abrupt end of the match.

Both the deceased and the injured were later sent to the Assin Foso Saint Francis Xavier Hospital.

The plea of the two accused persons were not taken when they were arraigned before a court at Assin Foso. Kwarteng was charged with murder with Ofori charged with causing bodily harm.

The prosecutor, ASP Akwasi Asafo Adjei told the court that the incident happened during a gala match between Assin Akenkansu Stars and Kofi Ninsin Stars at Assin Ohianhyeda. He said during the match, supporters of Assin Akenkansu Stars evaded the field to register their dissatisfaction with officiating and that brought the match to an abrupt end.
