Veteran sports journalist, Micheal Oti Adjei, has criticised Black Stars coach Otto Addo over how he has dealt with matters relative to the captaincy role.
According to Oti Adjei, how the Head Coach of the Black Stars dealt with the situation confirms Otto Addo’s inexperience.
In an interview with Pure FM, Oti Adjei criticised the coach’s leadership style, which he believes has affected how players and fans perceive him.
“When you handle it the way Otto Addo has handled it, you give people the sense that you are unsure of yourself, and when you are a leader, and you are unsure of yourself, it seeps down to how players and fans react to you, he said.
Oti Adjei was vocal about how this confirms the assertion that there has been a deficiency in Ghana’s football while suggesting how Otto Addo could have gone around the decision.
“The whole handling of the situation belies a certain lack of knowledge about Ghana football, about the Black Stars, and about the sensitivity of that role. We need to be clear to the fans. We need the coach to be the guy who communicates this in the press conferences and everything. The coach has to make it clear that my captaincy isn’t based on seniority,” he further stated.
This comes after Otto Addo rescinded his decision to make Mohammed Kudus the captain of the Black Stars during the last round of Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Sudan.
He has opted for Jordan Ayew for the games against Angola and Niger on Friday, November 15, 2024 and Monday, November 18, 2024 respectively.
The Black Stars, third in Group F with two points, have already landed in Luanda and are preparing to face Angola, who sit at the top of the group with 12 points, on Friday, November 15, 2024.
