The Parliament of Ghana as part of its efforts to develop football across the country will finance the training and upgrading of 275 Physical Education (PE) Teachers from each constituency in the country to CAF-licensed coaches.

The initiative, which is part of the activities marking 30 years of Parliamentary Democracy in Ghana, would see the selected coaches trained by CAF-certified instructors.

This would enable the coaches to go back to their various constituencies to share knowledge with their colleagues and offer players at the grassroots level the right technical and tactical guidance in football.

Parliament as part of the anniversary initiated a special cup match between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, at the Accra Sports Stadium on July 17.

Kotoko defeated Hearts 2-1 to lift the trophy and scheduled to play DC United in the United States of America (USA) next month as part of the prize package.

Rt. Hon. Alban S. K Bagbin – Speaker of Parliament has reiterated the significant role football plays in the development of a country.

Speaking at the review meeting after the historic match, Speaker Bagbin said
football was unique and had become the passion of the nation, hence the need to capitalise on it to promote the tenets of democracy in Ghana.

“UK has leveraged on football to promote every aspect of their development. We must also used football to drive the nation along, promote democracy and ultimately economic development,” he noted.

He added that, “Ghana has all it takes to succeed in football, and we must not let this slip away but tap into its advantages to grow and educate people about the need to embrace democracy”.
