Adomanu, (A/R), April 18, GNA - The Oyoko clan on Easer Sunday lifted the trophy in the first five-clan soccer competition organised at Adomanu in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region. The competition which was organised by the chief of the town, Nana Asirifi Asare II saw both the Oyoko and Aduana clans collecting eight points each in the-all-play-all competition.

The Oyoko Clan however used their superior goals to lift the trophy and a cash of one hundred thousand cedis with the Aduana Clan receiving 50,000.00 cedis.

The exciting competition, which attracted the entire community sent the people into frenzy, but referee Teacher Boateng nearly marred the game when he awarded a doubtful penalty to give the champions the edge over the highly spirited Aduana team.

Referee Boateng awarded a penalty for an infringement against the Asona clan when the Oyoko clan were down by a goal in their deciding match even though the incident happened miles away from the '18' yard box to give Oyoko the chance to draw level with the Aduana clan on points.

The Oyoko clan were favoured to have a field day after they beat the Bretuo clan with an emphatic 4-0 win with goals from Yaw Ahenkan, Kofi Damptey and Kwabena Appiah with all the clans tipping them for the ultimate

However when Aduana held the Oyoko clan to a goalless drawn game, the respect the clans had for them eroded, throwing the competition opened to all.

Aduana beat Asona 2-0 and accounted for Bretuo 1-0 after drawing goalless with Oyoko and Asene clans whilst Oyoko also beat Asene 1-0 and drew goalless with Aduana and Asona. At the end of the games, Bretuo picked the third position with four points followed by Asona with three points while Asene clan took the fifth position.

Nana Asirifi Asare, the Presiding Member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly congratulated the teams for their high performance and their show of sportsmanship. He said the competition was organized to strengthen the unity within the clans and also sustain the communal spirit amongst the youth in the community. Nana Asare expressed his happiness on the success of the competition and gave the assurance that the next one would be well organized than the maiden one. Nana Osei Bobie, the Adontenhene and Oyoko Abusuapanin, Agyen Frimpong told the GNA Sports that they won the trophy because they had prepared adequately for the competition. 18 April 06
