The 42nd Central zonal Inter School Sports festival came to an end on Friday, February 19, 2016, after a week of games and athletics.
Out of the many schools which participated in this years’ event, Awudome Senior High School (AWUSCO) made away with the Overall trophy for both Boys and Girls after brilliant performances.
St Prospers College Ho, won the boys soccer finals for the first time in four consecutive years, posting a 1-0 win over host Mawuli Senior High School. Mawuli undoubtedly played better football on the day, but failed to produce a goal as they were heart broken by PROSCO in the 26 minute.
Coach of Mawuli SHS, Emmanuel Ledi tells #TalksenseSports, inexperienced and loss of concentration caused their defeat.
“My boys lost concentration, I don’t know whether it was because of the crowd, but I think they just lack experience. PROSCO had luck on the day. We’ll make sure next time we match them boot to boot.”
Foster Kudiabor who has managed PROSCO team for years, believes they won it because the team is now at its peak as they have built up the team.
“It’s a buildup, it’s just development we’re doing in the school. We appeared four times but I think we’re at the peak of our game this time. MAWULI gave us a tough time but it’s by God’s Grace we won.”
Adaklu Senior High won a 4-3 penalty against a resilient MAWUKO Girls to com e first in the girls’ soccer. PROSCO boys won volley, 2 straight against SOSTECH, with OLA beating MAWUKO to win the girls volley. AWUSCO won Netball, Basketball girls and Handball for both boys and girls. MAWUKO walked away with the girls Table Tennis while MAWULI won the boys division. Meanwhile, Basketball boys was won by MAWULI.
In her closing remarks, Mrs Silvia Draphor, zonal Chairperson of the zone stressed on the fact that, the one week festival had been flooded with Indiscipline and tasked the various P.E masters to make sure they instill discipline among their athletes. She couldn’t end her remarks by advising the students to learn.
“I doth my heart for PROSCO for winning this year. We have seen a lot and heard a lot. Indiscipline and disrespect for authority all over. My P.E personnel’s, you must make sure you command respect among your students, be on them and discipline them. I know if you go back to your schools, you’ll continue to learn because education first.”
Apart from Basketball Boys which, MAWULI team will represent the zone, 192 athletes have been selected for all disciplines and are currently camping at MAWULI and OLA SHS, preparing for the Inter-zonal at Kpando.
