Accra, Jan. 6, GNA - The Premier League Board (PLB) has
put a hold on the switch of venues by Premier League Clubs, Tudu
Mighty Jets and Kessben FC for the second round of the Glo
Premier League. The PLB meanwhile awaits response of clearance or otherwise
from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding the switch. New entrants Mighty Jets opted for the adoption of the
Akosombo Stadium whilst Kessben settled on Tarkwa Stadium,
but they have to make do with their initial bases of the Ohene Djan
Stadium, Accra and Essipong Stadium, Sekondi respectively. Welbeck Abra-Appiah, Chairman of the PLB told GNA Sports
that 93we have inspected the two venues and forwarded it to the
GFA who are the final authority. We would have to wait for their
decision." The practice of change of venue has become synonymous with
struggling clubs in the Premier League in recent times, but the PLB
has stated that such a request will be approved only after careful
scrutiny. Abra-Appiah told GNA Sports that a venue switch will be
approved after a critical examination of factors, including financial
and economic status of the proposed venue, security of fans and
officials, availability of changing rooms, availability of security
personnel as well as the timing. He said it is appropriate for Clubs to communicate such desires
either before the commencement of the season or within the season
for possible switches. Meanwhile, the second round of the 2010/2011 Premier League
resumes on Sunday, January 8 with the Week 16 matches at the
various approved centres.
