Accra, Nov 21, GNA - Presbyterian Secondary School, (PRESEC) Legon on Saturday won the maiden inter schools scrabble championship staged at Legon, near Accra.
PRESEC registered 12 points to cart home a magnificent trophy worth five million cedis and a set of books donated by EPP Books Services Limited.
Achimota Secondary placed second with 33points, while Accra Academy were third with 70 points and Tema Secondary School took the fourth position with 78 points.
Saint Thomas Aquinas Secondary School had 85 points to place fifth ahead of O'Reilly and West Africa Secondary Schools which had 91 and 151 points to place sixth and seventh respectively. All participating schools had a set of books each donated by EPP Books, sponsors of the contest.
The overall individual performer was Master Kofi Safo of PRESEC who won all five games he played.
In a post competition speech, Mr Bernard Kpentey, chairman of the Scrabble Association Of Ghana (SAG) said the programme, which was aimed at developing the sport in second cycle institutions, would be given a national flavour.
He advised students to take active part in the sport because it "enhances knowledge and assists in improving upon their education."
