Paintsil: Semi-finals not enough for Black Stars

Former Ghana International John Paintsil says the Black Stars should focus on winning the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea just a day after the team secured qualification.

Paintsil last played for the Stars during the 2013 AFCON in South Africa and is of the view that, Ghana still remains as one of the power houses of African Football and it will be suicidal if the team targets Semi Finals.

The last time Ghana won the African Cup of Nations was in 1982 and pressure keeps mounting on the team after their failure to repeat that achievement.

Paintsil, who plies his trade with Maritzburg United told sportscrusader.com in an exclusive interview that Ghana should be focusing on Laurels and not qualification to the semi-finals.

“Our time, we failed the nation because we could have done better, so for me, if the team is targeting just the semi-finals, I think it’s not good enough.” “It’s been long since we won the African Cup of Nations, for me, I think that we should be targeting winning the next African Cup of Nations.”

Ghana sealed qualification to the 30th edition of the African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea after a 3-1 against the Cranes of Togo in Tamale on Wednesday.
