Ghana defender John Paintsil has apologized to a section of the Ghanaian media for alleging they have been paid to ruin him.
The deputy Black Stars captain claimed journalists have been paid to ‘destroy’ him following recent domestic problems.
The right-back was detained by the Ghana Police for an alleged assault on his wife.
Some media houses however reported the ex Fulham defender had stabbed his wife.
Paintsil was also reported to have attempted suicide after passing out in his home in Accra – leading to his outburst on an Israeli media network following reports his contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv had been terminated.
The 31-year-old who has only resumed training with his Israeli club now says he is sorry for his unfair slant to the Ghanaian media.
“Some of your colleagues don’t do due diligence to cross check their fact before publishing,” he told Accra-based Adom FM.
“They rush into publishing harmful stories only to find out later on they were wrong.
“I respect the media and must admit what I said during that time was out of rage and anger.
“However some (journalists) also deliberately do this and they were the ones my comments were targeted at.
“I apologize to all the noble and hardworking ones; they clearly don’t deserve to be considered amongst the others who do stuff like this on purpose.
“I have been in the game so long to know the importance of the media and will always work with them but then I urge journalists to cross check their facts anytime before publishing,” he added.
