Ghana defender John Paintsil has expressed shock over reports that the winning bonus for the Black stars players have not been paid almost one month after they recorded massive win over Mauritius in the 2017 AFCON qualifier.
The Maritzburg United right back says he is struggling to believe the news of the unpaid bonus because during his eight years stint with the Black Stars he never witnessed anything like that and that it will be the first time in ten years since bonuses delayed.
But upon hearing the Deputy Sports Minister, Vincent Oppong Asamoah confirm the unpaid bonuses in a radio interview, Paintsil exclaimed, “What a shock?.
In an exclusive interview with Sportscrusader.com, Paintsil said, “I don’t want to believe that Black Stars bonus has not been paid after almost one month after winning against Mauritius. It never happened during my days with the team and I still don’t believe it”.
Upon seeing the story of the Deputy Sports Minister claiming that the GFA submitted the budget after the game and that has caused the delay, Paintsil exclaimed, “What a shock? This is unbelievable. I never experienced that during my playing days for the Black Stars. Even though I know the players are matured enough to handle the situation, it is really shocking for their bonuses to be delayed. This must not happen”, he added.
Even though documents available to Sportscrusader.com have revealed that the GFA submitted the budget to the Ministry of Youth and Sports thirty eight days before the game, it is unclear what has caused the delay.
The Black Stars recorded a 7-1 drubbing over their Mauritius counterparts in the first game of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers and will be playing Rwanda in September.
