Ghana's athletes have expressed their shock over claims of demanding bonuses at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

An article published by Graphic Sports suggested that they requested bonuses to 'boost their morale' for the summer games.

However, Media Attache to Team Ghana, Benjamin Willie Graham, currently based in Strasbourg, has refuted the claims.

According to him, the team was shocked to learn about their supposed demands for bonuses because they are owed some outstanding allowances.

"The team in Strasbourg has not made any demands for any bonus or allowance through the Captain or the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee. There has never been any communication to that effect," he said.

"The story that came out actually referred to bonuses or allowances from the 2023 African Games, the Douala competition (African Athletics Championships), and Bahabas (World Athletics Relays). It has nothing to do with the Paris Olympic Games.

"So when that report came out, it surprised a lot of people, especially the athletes."

Ghana's 21-man team includes eight athletes, highlighted by the 4x100m relay team in track and field, swimmers Joselle Mensah and Harry Stacey, and high jumper Rose Yeboah.

The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are expected to start from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
