Ghana assistant coach Kwesi Appiah says this month's double-header will prove consequential to which players will make the final cut for 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Coach Goran Stevanovic will supervise his last two friendly games before the turn of the year against tournament co-hosts Gabon and Sierra Leone.

Debut call ups have been handed to former German youth internationals Charles Takyi and Jeffrey Schulpp while South Korea-based striker Derek Asamoah returns after a three-year absence.

The matches to be played in Paris are expected to confirm the choices or otherwise of the technical handlers on those fit to play at the continent's flagship event.

"We have a fair idea which players will go to the Nations Cup, but the two international friendly matches will help a lot," Kwesi Appiah said.

"Such games are important for us as we’ll take a closer look the players as determine which of them can help us win the cup.

"But it doesn’t mean the door has been closed on those who didn't get a call-up.

"We'll still monitor those abroad and home to see how it goes."

Ghana, huge favourites for next year's edition, last won the competition in 1982.
