Atletico Madrid got their La Liga campaign back on track with a convincing 2-0 win over 10-man Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Saturday.

Thomas Partey was introduced in the 52nd minute to replace Spain international Rodrigo.

The 25 year old has been left on the bench in the last two games since playing for the Black Stars against Kenya early this month.

Diego Simeone’s side had won just one of their opening four games – leaving them seven points behind league leaders Barcelona – but bounced back to winning ways against their city rivals in style

Thomas Lemar was the star man on the day for Simeone’s side. The French man almost got his first goal for the club following his move from Monaco in July when his stunning 30-yard effort thumped against the woodwork, but that resulted in the opening goal regardless after bouncing in off goalkeeper David Soria’s back,so it was awarded as an own goal.

He did get his first goal after 60 minutes, applying the final touch to a sweet counter-attack that carved open the Getafe defence.

Substitute Ivan Alejo was given a straight red card just four minutes after being introduced for a clumsy challenge on Saul Niguez as Getafe’s hopes of getting back into the game fizzled out.

The win makes it two in two for Atletico Madrid after Tuesday night’s victory over AS Monaco in the champions league.
