Pele urged to step down

SENIOR GOVERNMENT officials in Ghana are urging Abedi Ayew Pele to step down from the race to become chairman of the FA in favour of Ben Kouffie.

Reports from within Accra suggest that the pressure being mounted on Abedi is coming from the presidency and should he succumb, it would leave 69-year-old Kouffie as the only contestant in tomorrow's voting.

This would enable Kouffie, who is also a FIFA/CAF technical director, to increase both his standing and his power in Ghanaian and African football.

Abedi is expected to announce his decision to the Executive Council of the Ghanaian FA tomorrow morning, before voting commences.
