Pepsi Affirms Support for Hockey Development

The Managing Director of Beverage Investment Ghana Limited, producers of the soft drink Pepsi, this afternoon launched the 2004 edition of the Greater Accra Hockey Association in a ceremony at the National Hockey Pitch.

Mr. K. Nimako recollected the commitment of his outfit some five years ago when they opted to support a less resourced sport like hockey and expressed his personal satisfaction that the sport has grown and continues to show potential for growth. He indicated that the motivation of his company to support the sport was even stronger now seeing the strides the sport had made in the past five year. He was proud that his company had been a partner in raising hockey in Ghana from nowhere to a 3rd place ranking in Africa and 25th in the world. He was optimistic that given adequate resources, Ghana hockey can be an Olympic Gold winner in future.

Mr. Nimako paid tribute to all the other sponsors of the sport and encouraged them to resolve to support the sport even further in the face of the numerous difficulties. He was full of praise for the media for their partnership in developing the sport and admonished them to continue the good work.

Above all, Mr. Nimako wished the Greater Accra Hockey Association and all the clubs well and without disclosing the sponsorship package, assured them that it will be an excellent sponsorship that will definitely warrant an exciting competition.

In the matches played on day one of competition, the Nation?s top two clubs, Exchequers of Bank of Ghana and Trustees of SSNIT battled to a pulsating scoreless draw. The other results were:
