Performance of Ghanaian Players Abroad

SWITZERLAND

2013 FIFA U20 World Cup Golden Shoe winner Ebenezer Assifuah scored a brace for FC Sion who ended the season on high after beating Grasshoppers 3-1. Winger Ishmael Yartey was unused.

In other games in the Swiss top-flight, former Hearts of Oak striker Samuel Afum sat on the Young Boys Bern when they beat St Gallen 2-0 to secure Uefa Europa League football for next season.

In the Swiss Challenge League, Ghanaian-born Swiss youth international Kofi Ntiamoah Nimeley was in full time action for Locarno who lost 2-1 against FC Schaffhausen to seal their relegation into the third-tier league.

SWEDEN

David Accam and Ema Boateng were both in action for Helsingborg IF who lost 1-0 to Elfsborg in the Svenskan Cupen final and miss out on the trophy. Accam began the match and lasted the entire 90 minutes while Boateng came off the bench to play in the 57th minute.

Former Heart of Lions striker Benjamin Fadi played 79 minutes for Varnamo who posted a narrow 1-0 win over GIF Sundsvall to push closer to the summit of the table.

Former Hearts of Oak and Berekum Chelsea midfielder Sadat Karim played 30 minutes for Landskrona who beat GAIS 2-1.

GERMANY

Baba Rahman missed out a Bundesliga ticket for next season after he played the entire match for his Greuther Furth side who drew 1-1 with Hamburg in the relegation play-offs. Hamburg maintain their status in the Bundesliga on the away goal rule after the first-leg ended 0-0. In the Regionalliga Nord, Kwasi Okyere Wriedt was in action for St Pauli II who lost 4-2 against Havelse.

Eintracht Norderstedt posted a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Victoria Hamburg. German-born Jerry Sampaney came off the bench in the last nine minutes to play for Victoria Hamburg while Clifford Aniteye was unused by Eintracht Norderstedt.

Joseph-Claude Gyan Agyeman was not in the TSG Hoffenheim II team that hammered Ulm 4-1.

Manfred Osei Kwadwo sat on the bench for Kaiserslautern II who lost 4-3 against Kickers Offenbach.

ITALY

Sulley Muntari scored a wondeful 30 yarder for AC Milan in their 2-1 narrow victory over Sassuolo in the Serie A on Sunday night. While Muntari was on target, midfielder Michael Essien was on the Milan bench. Youngster Raman Chibsah played the entire 90 minutes of the game for Sassuolo. Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu played the last 25 minutes for Udinese who drew 2-2 with Sampdoria.

Kingsley Boateng sat on the Catania bench when they beat Atalanta 2-1 but still suffered relegation from the Italian top-flight.

Juventus crowned their impressive season with a 3-0 thumping of Cagliari on Sunday. Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah played the entire 90 minutes for them. Isaac Cofie was not in the Genoa team that defeated AS Roma 1-0.

Godfred Donsah was unused by Hellas Verona who lost 5-1 at Napoli.

Parma consigned Livorno to a 2-0 defeat in their final day game. Afriyie Acquah and Alfred Duncan both played full throttle for Parma and Livorno respectively. Emmanuel Gyasi warmed the Torino bench when they managed to hold Fiorentina to a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

In the SerieB, Amidu Salifu was not in the Modena team that beat Avellino 1-0. Fiorentina loanee Maxwell Acosty was a bench warmer for Carpi who beat promoted Palermo 2-1.

Nii Nortey Ashong saw on the Spezia bench in their 2-2 stalemate with Virtus Lanciano.

Moro Al-Hassan played the last 5 minutes for Cesena who beat Reggina 2-1.

FRANCE

Jonathan Mensah played 90 minutes for Evian TG and helped them beat Sochaux 3-0 and condemn them to relegation. In full time action for Sochaux was the Ghana attacker Jordan Ayew.

Andre Ayew scored the only goal of the game for Olympique Marseille who beat Guingamp 1-0 but failed to qualify for the Europa League.

Defender John Boye was unused by Stade Rennes who posted a 3-1 away win over Stade Reims on Saturday.

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris did not play for Valenciennes who lost 3-1 at Toulouse.

AS Monaco loanee Dennis Appiah played 46 minutes and helped Caen to draw 2-2 with Dijon and gain promotion to the French top-flight.

UAE

Ghana superstar Asamoah Gyan’s scored with a first-half tap-in that proved enough as Al Ain ended Al Ahli’s treble dream with a 1-0 win in the President’s Cup final on Sunday.

BELGIUM

Anderlecht tightened the grip at the top of the table after beating Lokeren 3-1. Winger Frank Acheampong came off the bench to play the last 6 minutes for Anderlecht while Belgian-born defender Denis Odoi completed the game for Lokeren. Meanwhile young striker Eugene Ansah was on the Lokeren bench. Both Daniel Opare and Bennard Kumordzi were in action for Standard Liege and Genk respective when they met in the Play-offs on Sunday. Liege won 1-0 over Genk.

SPAIN

Ghana striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom scored for Elche FC but they suffered a 3-1 reverse at Sevilla on Sunday night.

Fatau Mohammed sat on the bench for Granada CF who escaped relegation after luckily beating Real Valladolid 1-0 on the final day of the season. Richard Boateng could not make the Granada team for the game.

In the Segunda Division, midfielder Thomas Partey was booked in the 63rd minute and played 90 minutes for Real Mallorca who drew 0-0 with Real Jaen.

NETHERLANDS

Defender Johan Kappelhof was a pillar in defence for FC Groningen who secured a Europa League ticket after beating AZ Alkmaar 3-0 on Sunday.
