Performance of Ghanaian players abroad, Waris, Accam and Tetteh on target

Abdul Majeed Waris lifted Valenciennes to victory over Jonathan Mensah’s Evian TG after scoring in the 62nd minute in the Ligue 1 while David Accam got on the double for Helsingborg in the Swedish Cup.

There were goals for Aziz Tetteh, Jonathan Opoku, Thomas Partey, Shaibu Yakubu, Emmanuel Banahene and Zain Musah in other games. Afriyie Acquah and Christian Atsu also earned praises for their performances.

FRANCE

Andre Ayew returned from a short injury to play the entire 90 minutes for Olympique Marseille in their 1-1 stalemate with Stade Reims on Friday. Andre was booked in the 72nd minute.

Jordan Ayew watched from the stands when his Sochaux side coasted to a 2-0 win over Lorient. Jordan was sent off in last weekend’s game against Paris Saint-Germain and was ineligible to play.

Defender John Boye lasted the entire regulation minutes of Stade Rennes who succumbed to a 3-2 home defeat to Toulouse at the Route de la Lorient.

Black Stars striker Abdul Majeed Waris scored on the second week running when he netted in the 62nd minute to help Valenciennes to narrowly beat Evian Thonon Gaillard 1-0 at the Parc de Sports. Defender Jonathan Mensah came off the bench after 86 minutes to play for Evian.

Derek Boateng failed to make the Fulham first team squad when they recorded their first win since mid-January after beating Newcastle United 1-0 at the Craven Cottage.

In the Championship, winger Albert Adomah was a full-timer for Middlesbrough who held AFC Bournemouth to a 0-0 drawn game at the The Goldsands Stadium.

In other games, teenager Koby Arthur was not in the Birmingham City team that suffered a 4-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

At the Kings Power Stadium, versatile attacker Jeffrey Schulpp played full throttle for Leicester City who tightened their grip at the top of the table with a 3-1 hammering of Blackpool.

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong was replaced on the hour mark by Barnsley who took a 3-0 battering at Watford.

In the League Two, Carlisle and Stevenage shared the spoils in a 0-0 drawn tie on Saturday. Former Liverpool youngster David Amoo played the entire 90 minutes for Carlisle while former Manchester City defender Curtis Obeng was in defence for Stevenage.

Crystal Palace loanee Hiram Boateng warmed the bench for Crawley Town who posted a narrow 1-0 win over Colchester City.

GERMANY

In the Bundesliga I, attacker Karim Bellarabi cancelled out a Luiz Gustavo 35th minute strike for Wolfsburg in the 48th minute to help Eintracht Braunschweig draw 1-1 with Wolfsburg.

On Friday Kevin-Prince Boateng played the full 90 minutes for Schalke 04 who came from behind to post a 2-1 win over Augsburg. The midfielder was booked in the 35th minute, but compatriot Anthony Annan was unused by Schalke in the game.

In the Bundesliga II, defender Marcel Appiah was in defence for Arminia Bielefeld who slipped to a 1-0 loss against Sandhausen.

2013 Ghana U20 full-back Baba Abdul Rahman was not in the Greuther Furth team that split points with Union Berlin in a 1-1 draw.

Midfielder Charles Takyi was an unused substitute Energie Cottbus who posted a narrow 1-0 win over Karlsruher.

Reagy Ofosu failed to make the Ingolstadt first team squad when they slipped to a 1-0 home loss to FSV Frankfurt.

But Michael Essien was changed just after 8 minutes while Sulley Muntari warmed the Milan bench. YoungsterSolomon Nyantakyi sat on the Parma bench.

Kwadwo Asamoah played full throttle for Juventus who posted a 1-0 win over Genoa. Isaac Cofie missed the game with suspension.

Former Inter Milan youth team player Isaac Ntow came off the Brescia bench in the 76th to mark his Serie B debut when they lost 2-0 at Palermo.

Amidu Salifu played 58 minutes for Modena who shared the spoils with Empoli in a 0-0 draw.

NETHERLANDS

Christian Atsu was in fine shape for Vitesse Arnhem who lost 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie. Memphis Depay scored the match-winner for PSV.

Attacker Elvis Manu set up the second goal and scored the match winner for Cambuur who posted a 3-2 win over RKC Waalwijk. Dutch-born Mitch Apau was replaced in the 75th minute.

Kwame Quansah came off the bench in 46th minute to play for Heracles Almelo who coasted to a 2-1 win over Roda JC. Matthew Amoah was unused by Heracles while Edwin Gyasi was not in the team.

Johan Kappelhof was in defence for Groningen who lost 2-1 to ADO Den Haag.

Shadragh Eghan came off the bench in the 84th minute to play for FC Twente who beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1.

Lokeren sneaked past Lierse SK with a 2-1 victory. Ghana youth attacker Eugene Nana Ansah came off the bench to play a cameo role for Lokeren.

KV Mechelen suffered their second straight defeat after Sporting Charleroi drilled them 3-0 at their own backyard. Former Heart of Lions midfielderAbraham Kudemor started the game for Sporting and was replaced in the 66th minute. With attacker Abdul Yakinu-Iddi missing with injury, French-born Ghanaian defender Jerry Vandam was at the heart of defence for Mechelen.

KRC Genk managed to return from their trip to Kortrijk with a vital away point after drawing 2-2. Ghana midfielder Bennard Kumordzi was booked in the49th minute and played the entire 90 minutes for Genk.

Zulte-Waregem applied the brakes on Nana Akwasi Asare‘s KAA Gent after beating them 1-0 at the GHELAMCO-arena. Nana Asare was booked in the 80th minute and played the entire 90 minutes for Gent.
