Players need to learn before going into coaching – Fatau Dauda

Black Stars goalkeepers coach, Fatau Dauda, has urged footballers to learn and acquire their certificates before venturing into coaching.

The former Ghana international explains that playing at the highest level does not automatically make you a good coach.

The former AshantiGold goalkeeper took up coaching shortly after hanging up his boots and has already worked with the Sudan national team before joining Otto Addo’s technical team.

“The way you play is different from being a coach. If you have played football before or if you have been a top player or a professional, that doesn’t mean you can be a coach,” Fatau Dauda told Joy Sports.

“If you want to be a coach, you need to learn. When I started coaching, I realized that if you don’t learn, you can’t be a coach.

“Playing in the World Cup and playing for big teams does not mean you can’t be a good coach; you still need to learn.

“In coaching, you need to go and learn, then come back and teach the kids.”
