Players not good enough -Coach Wellington

Ghana coach Orlando Wellington claims the players he brought to the Africa Youth Championships were just not good enough after their first round exit.

The Black Satellites, who were defending African and world champions before the tournament in Johannesburg, failed to win a single game and are headed home in disgrace.

Wellington admits his team were not good enough, even though he does not feel personally responsible for their poor outing.

“I can say the players were not good enough over the three games. We tried everything and had our opportunities but it just did not happen,” he says.

Wellington also claims their plans had been affected by the uncertainty that surrounded the tournament.

“We were disturbed with the programme of changing the schedule which hurt our preparations and through that we lost some of the key players we wanted to bring here.”

And he is no mood to suggest that the performance of the team here reflects badly on the quality of local coaches.

“I am not worried at all. My concern is that Ghanaians had faith in this team. I am not bothered what people say about local coaches now. I don’t buy that. We lacked some key players and it affected the team a little bit.”
