Police cautions unruly team officials

Sunyani, (B/A) Aug 24, GNA -- The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kwaku Ayesu Opare-Addo, has cautioned that the police would no longer tolerate any irresponsible behaviour by team officials or their agents on security matters at the Golden City park ay Berekum.

The Police Commander in a statement copied to the Chairman of Berekum Arsenals football club cautioned that, "Future interferences in the work of the police will engender the boycott of matches involving Berekum Arsenals and teams of your ilk in the region by my outfit". ACP Opare-Addo's warning followed an alleged intimidating stance taken by Moro towards security officials during the Premier League match between Arsenals and Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, August 20 at the Berekum Park.

The Police Commander emphasised that the statutory role of the police and the military was to protect life and property, adding that, "without much decorum and in a confrontational mood, you instructed the Deputy Police Commander to sack soldiers brought to the Park to assist in protecting life and property".

"As much as you can relate with the security agencies in matters affecting security at the 'Golden City' park, you cannot in anyway dictate to the police to take actions that will mar our relationship with sister security agencies", the statement added. ACP Opare-Addo cautioned team officials to refrain from such behaviours and interferences to allow for peace to prevail during sporting events in the region.

The statement was also copied to the Regional Minister, Berekum District Chief Executive, Security Co-ordinator, Commander of the Third Battalion, Regional Sports Council and the Press.
