Police team win national athletics championship

Kumasi, April 26, GNA - The Ghana Police Service grabbed four gold, one silver and a bronze medals to emerge champions in the women's category of the National Athletics championship's, "Senior Division", held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi at the weekend.

Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) placed second after they picked one gold and a silver medals while Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) came third with one gold medal.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) took the fourth position, with one silver and two bronze medals followed by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) with one silver and one bronze medals whilst the Central and Greater-Accra Regions tied at the sixth position with a silver medal each. In the men's category, GAF came first with two gold, one silver and a bronze with CEPS placing second with two gold and a bronze whilst GIS and Greater-Accra Region took the third and fourth positions with one silver and one bronze medals respectively.

The Ashanti Region athletics team produced an outstanding performance to win seven gold, four silver and two bronze medals to place first in the Girls' category of the Under-17 division followed by the Central Region with one gold medal, one silver, and two bronze.

Volta Region took the third position with two silver medals and a bronze with the Western and Brong-Ahafo Regions tied at the fourth position with one bronze medal each.

In the boys' U-17 division, the Ashanti Region team again came first as they hauled a total of nine medals - (four gold, three silver and two bronze) with Northern Region placing second with one gold and a bronze while Central Region placed third with one gold medal and the Western and Brong-Ahafo Regions winning a silver medal each to take the fourth position. In the boys' division of the Under-19 category, Ashanti Region showed their dominance to place first with two gold, four silver and one bronze, Central Region placed second with two gold, Western Region came third with one gold and one bronze, Upper East Region took the fourth position with one gold whilst Upper West and Eastern Regions tied at the fifth position with one bronze medal each.

In the girls' division, Ashanti Region placed first after sweeping two gold, one silver and one bronze followed by Central Region which took home two gold medals, Western Region placed third with one gold, Northern Region came fourth with one silver and a bronze, Eastern and Upper East Regions tied at the fifth position with one silver each. 26 April 10
