Ghana’s Polo side last Saturday produced a brilliant performance to triumph over their Nigerian counterparts, Kaduna Polo Club, by 8-51/2 in the Vodafone Nigerian Independence Cup at the Accra Polo Grounds.
The victory confirmed the Ghanaians’ recent dominance over their West African neighbours, having won last year’s encounter (Vodafone Cup) at the same venue.
Last Saturday’s event, arranged by telecommunications company Vodafone, was in commemoration of Nigeria’s 52nd Independence anniversary celebration.
The Ghanaian team dominated play in all the chukkers, except in the third chukker, opening the scoring and extending the lead to two at the end of the second chukker.
Team Ghana was proudly represented by Pepe Santanarina, Eric Gene, Darko Agyemang and Bilal Malawi while the Nigeria team comprised Mukhtar Adama, Ibrahim Babangida, Aminu Alhaji and Haruna Hassan.
The Nigerian High Commissioner Oluseyi Ademola Onafowokan, who graced the occasion, commended Vodafone for putting together the program which sought to foster the already healthy relationship between the two countries.
A representative of Vodafone, in an address, said the initiative forms part of his outfit’s corporate social responsibility.
