Polo backs Black Stars to progress

Ghana legend Mohammed Polo says the Black Stars can advance from the taxing Group G if the team’s defensive frailties are addressed.

After Monday’s 2-1 defeat to USA, the Black Stars have faint hopes of reaching the knockout stage.

The 2010 World Cup finalists must beat in-form leaders Germany on Saturday to breathe life into their campaign.

Polo, who coached Hearts of Oak in the just ended Ghana Premier League season, is refusing to rule out the team’s chances of reaching the second round.

“It’s very likely that we would qualify,” Polo told Kumasi-based Metro FM

“This is not the first time we are losing our first game in a world cup tournament.

“In 2006, we lost our first match but yet we were able to qualify.

“The boys have to know that there is nothing that they have to do than to play all out in the remaining two games and make sure that we qualify. They have to go all out.

“The defensive lapses should also be curtailed. If not, we could be punished at any time.”
