Former Black Stars player, Mohammed Polo, has expressed interest in coaching the senior national team – the Black Stars.

“It is long overdue, but I will wait for my time,” he replied when asked by Class Sports if he would be interested in coaching the senior national team should the position be available.

He also expressed worry about the lack of opportunities for retired footballers to manage some of the national teams, especially the Black Stars.

Polo, a retired footballer, who once held the position of head coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, believes they have a lot to teach young and upcoming footballers.

In his words, “Some of us, who have so much experience and trying to become coaches, have seen it all and done it all, but we are not being given the opportunity.”

“We have played under a lot of coaches and learnt a lot on our own, so, I feel we have a lot to prove.”

Known as the ‘Dribbling Magician’ in his prime, Polo explained that “the young ones need our help, not only on the football field, but also off the field in order to become very good human beings”.

He added: “What I used my feet to do with the ball, I would want Ghanaian players of this generation to replicate.”

Polo also spoke on the issue of coaching the Black Stars. He said Avram Grant has done well, but there is room for improvement.

He observed that: “What Avram Grant is doing is no different from what Kwesi Appiah did.”

“The only difference could be on the discipline of players where I rate Grant over Appiah, otherwise there is not much difference and it tells you that with the right attitude we can achieve that.”

It is rumoured that Swansea City are interested in snapping up Grant, but his agent and the GFA have denied there is any contact between the Welsh club and the Israeli.
