Cape Coast, Dec. 9, GNA - An opportunistic effort by Mubarak Wakaso in the 59th minute enabled Ashgold to beat Accra Hearts of Oak by a lone goal in their week two Premier league match at the Robert Mensah stadium, Cape Coast on Sunday.
After a goalless first half, it was Hearts' Ernest Okyere who failed to put the ball into an empty net to deny his side the lead. Hearts resumed the second half strongly and full of fight as they continued to dictate the pace of the game until when against the run of play, Wakaso broke the deadlock through a free-kick in the 59th minute. Ashgold brought on Shaibu Yakubu for Alex Asamoah, Nathnaiel Kwao for Sumaila Yanya whilst hearts brought on Sherif Mohammed for Ernest Okyere with Joe Louis replacing Francis Bossman. The changes enabled Hearts to take full control of the game but their hope of drawing level were shattered by Ashgold's agile goalie Fatau Dauda who was at his best as on many occasions he made several dramatic saves to deny the attacking efforts of Hearts to find the net until the final whistle.
