Premier League: Wa All Stars 1-0 RTU

Debutants Wa All Stars on Sunday put up a splendid performance to beat Real Tamale United (RTU) by a lone goal in their Onetouch Premier League match played at the Wa Sports Stadium on Sunday. The game started on a fast note with All Stars dictating the pace but good defensive work and excellent goal keeping by the RTU lads denied the home side any early goal.

All Stars looked a better side but were over anxious and desperate to score goals with the attackers blowing off all the goal scoring chances that came their way with inaccurate shooting at goal to send the first half goalless.

Back from recess, it was still All Stars who made some threatening incursions into the goal area of RTU but the visitors were always up to the task as they put checks on the attackers. As the game progressed, RTU lost the midfield and this paved the way for the attackers of All Stars to put a sustained pressure on the defencemen of RTU.

In one of such moves, a defender of RTU kicked the ball to corner and the resultant corner kick into the goal area of RTU created a goal mouth melee for Edusei Poku to kick the ball into the net in the 55th minute for the only goal for the home side.

The RTU lads from then on tried to lift their game but this was short-lived with the homesters deciding to adopt short and accurate passes to the delight of the numerous supporters who attended the match. Referee Yaw Ametepey from Sunyani however nearly spoilt the game with his decisions as he failed to stamp his authority on the game in the latter parts of the game as he allowed it to degenerate into rough tackling with the fans hooting at him by his indecisions.

The effort of the Wa lads indicated that the Club has a bright future and could wrestle with the seasoned clubs but provided the home supporters avoid being rowdy and comport themselves during matches to avoid any bans because of crowd violence.
