Ghana’s premier league enters week 5 with some interesting
and mouth-watering fixtures.
The top liner for this weekend is at the Berekum golden city
park where league leaders, Kumasi Asante Kotoko travel to play back from exile
Berekum Arsenal in a match which promises to be nothing but nerve-cracking.
The ‘Porcupine
Warriors’ are sitting on top of the table with 10 points and are not ready to
hand over the mantle to their bitter rivals Accra Hearts of Oak who are also on
the same points but with a goal deficit. Arsenal on the other hand have only
managed 3 points out of four matches played so far and would not wish to let go
off the three maximum point at stake.
This match will be the first match for the Berekum lads after
serving their four match suspension and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the
club, Alhaji Yakubu wishes to start on a winning note for his vociferous
supporters. Kotoko have not chalked good record in the Brong Ahafo region in
the past three seasons and would also like to make a statement come Sunday.
Second placed Glorious Accra Hearts of Oak will also be
battling things out with New Edubiase who are also third on the log. The phobia
club has improved tremendously as compared to last season where things went
rough for them from the on set.
Hearts lost to Edubiase last season at the Accra sports
stadium and this has giving the visitors a lot of confidence ahead of this
clash but the story could be a different one this time around as Douglas
Nkrumah is in tough shape and enjoying support from newly signed Thomas Abbey
and in formed Uriah Asante.
Abdul Yakubu Chief Executive Officer of New Edubiase united
has vowed that his side will be the first to beat Hearts this season especially
where his top marksman Felix Baffoe leads the goal king race with six goals but
the former continental club masters said the’re not ready to loose at time as
they will be marking their centenary celebration next week.
At the Essipong stadium in Sekondi on Saturday, former league
champions Berekum Chelsea will take on new entrant Wassaman united. The former
champions sacked their head coach last week after loosing to Medeama at the
golden city park and would like to appease their fans with a win over Wassaman
but the home team will give them a run for their money especially where a loose
for them will push them further down the table.
Soccer miners, Ashantigold will also welcome the Scientific
soccer lads, Liberty Professionals to the Obuasi Len Clay stadium in a must win
encounter for the home team. Ashantigold are currently 10th on the
log with 5 points whilst Liberty Professionals are 8th on the log
with six points.
At the Kpando park ‘Giant Killers’ Hearts of Lions will play
host to Kwesi Nyantekyie’s Wa All Stars. A win for the Lions will push them
four places up the log as they are currently sitting at the 12th position with only
four points as compared to All Stars who are third on the
table with nine points from four games played.
Tema Youth will welcome fresh from victory Meadeam SC at the
Tema astro turf pitch in a match which promises to be very entertaining. Tema
Youth have not been impressive so far because haven’t drawn their first match
with Kotoko gave a lot of signals that Tema Youth were really going to compete
in the league but their subsequent matches proved otherwise.
Medeama are a very strong side physically and technically but
tactically, Tema Youth are quite discipline and will fight for all the three
point at stake as they are second from bottom on the table as compared to
Medeama who are 7th on the table but should Luis Agyemang and Hans
Koffie have their day, Tema Youth may be found wanting.
Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs will play as guest to Mighty Jets on
Saturday at the Accra sports stadium. The visitors are third on the table with
eight points whilst the homesters are 11th with just four points.
Knowing that a loose will sink them further down the table, Mighty Jets will
fight to their elastic limit just to grab the three points at stake but Dwarfs
will certainly not give them a fertile ground to sowing their seed.
Bottom placed Bechem united will host Aduana stars at the
Kumasi Baba Yara stadium. This match would have been another quite strong a
derby should it have been played at Bechem since both clubs come from the same
region but playing it in Kumasi have taken a churn out of the game. On paper
Aduana looks favourite but Bechem have nothing but to fight hard for a win as
they are the only team in the league who are yet to pick a point.
