President John Mahama deserves all the plaudits for being a leader for all Ghanaians and he should especially be hailed for personally intervening to convince the Ayew brothers to rescind their decision to quit the national soccer team, according to George Gyawu, Director of Operations of Glo Ghana Premier League hotshots, Aduana Stars.

Jordan and Dede Ayew, sons of football legend Abedi Pele have apparently made themselves available again for Black Stars selection after meeting with the President last week. The duo had earlier this year announced their temporary break from international football citing varying reasons. But number one Black Stars fan President Mahama last week urged the Ayews and other self-imposed exile players including Michael Essien and Kevin-Prince-Boateng to make a return.

Mr. Gyawu has expressed utter dismay that some Ghanaians are criticizing President Mahama for stepping in to resolve differences in the national team, the critics labeling it as interference in the job of Coach Kwesi Appiah. But the Aduana Stars chief believes the President must rather be hailed for being there when needed most.

“There is no indication that the FA are not happy that this situation has been resolved with the help of the President. Kwesi Appiah I know is happy, the FA are happy. Any serious coach will be happy to have these players back,” George Gyawu told www.sportsinghana.com exclusively. “What the President did is what Kwesi Appiah and the FA could not do. The FA and many other people tried to persuade the players to change their mind without success but the President has done it. If anyone thinks Kwesi Appiah and the FA are not happy with the situation, they should come out and tell us,” Mr. Gyawu added.

He continued: “I’m surprised an initiative that will only strengthen our national team has been politicized and people are saying all sorts of bad things. They should shut up and let the President do his work. This is a President who cares for everyone, even the poor and needy, he mixes with everyone. He is President for all Ghanaians.”

Mr. Gyawu believes even players of the national team currently in camp preparing for Sunday’s World Cup qualifier in Lesotho are delighted to have the Ayews back for their next assignments.

“I suppose Sulley Muntari and the other players in camp are all aware and agree that these players should be back. It’s always good to have good players beefing up the team because the Zambia match in September is serious and we need to be at our very best,” he explained.
