President send congratulatory message to Ghana's bid success

Accra, July 8, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor, on Thursday said during Ghana's 30 minute bid presentation in Cairo through a video goodwill message that, "We are a soccer crazy nation".

The President's message was to lend support to the country's preparedness to host the 2008 African Cup of Nations and the slot was eventually won by Ghana when she received nine votes as against Libya's three votes.

A Press Release from the CAF Secretariat received by the GNA Sports said the CAF President Issa Hayatou named the successful host nation- Ghana at a media conference held in Cairo on Thursday.

Prior to the press conference, the CAF President said ; "like in other elections there must be a winner and loser, that is democracy, each party must accept the verdict in the spirit of fair play".

Dr Kofi Amoah, Chairman of Ghana's Bid Committee in reaction after the announcement of the result said: I feel excited, I feel we have worked very hard to win this bid, the 2008 tournament will be for the whole of the African continent".
