Professor Bour lauds springing up of keep fit clubs

Kumasi, March 16, GNA - Professor Daniel Bour, Provost of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has lauded the springing up of Keep Fit Clubs in Kumasi and other parts of the country. He said apart from keeping the youth healthy, their engagement in activities of such clubs would divert their attention from drugs and other unhealthy practices.

Prof. Bour was addressing the closing ceremony of a day's sporting activities, organized by the CASS student's council, at the Paa Joe Sports Complex in Kumasi at the weekend. He stressed the need for sports to be made part and parcel of people and not to be organised only on special occasions for fun and relaxation.

Prof. Bour commended the students for organizing such a competition to showcase their talents. Mr Robert Aloo, President of CASS Students Council, said the competition was aimed at bringing the faculties of Social Science, Industrial Art, Fine Art, the Law School and the KNUST School of Business together to share ideas. He urged the students to support the University authorities to enhance teaching and learning.

The Faculty of Industrial Art beat the Faculty of Social Sciences 1-0 in soccer and was awarded GH¢3000 while Social Sciences had GH¢200 for placing second. Other competitions organized included volley ball, basket ball, ludo, "oware" and draft. 16 March 09
