Ottawa, Ontario – Canada's Women’s World Cup Team today tied Ghana 1-1 in Seattle, Washington in preparation for the upcoming Women’s World Cup to be held in the United States this fall.

Christine Sinclair, who hasn’t played since June 15th when Canada defeated Mexico 2-1 scored Canada’s only goal in the seventh minute. Ghana tied the game in the 34th minute. No goals were scored in the second half.

Canada played the match with a 4-3-3 formation before changing to 4-4-2 in the second half.

“The game was very even,” said Head Coach Even Pellerud. “Ghana played a very typical African style. We had 10 good scoring chances to their eight.”

Canada was without five players who earned silver on Friday at the Pan Am games in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic and are expected to join the team tomorrow. Canada’s WUSA players will join the team following the conclusion of their season.

Silvana Burtini (work) and Isabelle Morneau (injury) also returned to Canada’s lineup for the game.

“I’m happy there were no injuries and it was important to have Sinclair back in our lineup,” concluded Pellerud.

The team will return to Vancouver on the 16th and then leave for Kelowna, BC on the 18th where they will train for one week at the Parkinson Recreation Centre.

Canada has two upcoming friendlies against Mexico on Sunday, August 31 in Edmonton and Thursday, September 4 in Vancouver.
