Queens whip Volta Ladies

The women national team, the Black Queens, on Thursday whipped Volta Ladies of the University of Ghana, Legon, 3-0 in a friendly soccer encounter played at the Legon Park.

The match which forms part of the Hall Week celebration of the Voltarens was largely dominated by the Queens who are the African Silver medallist.

The encounter is part of a programme to prepare the Queens for their World Cup appearance in China later in the year.

The Queens parading a full house and an all round attacking machinery revolving around midfield germ, Sheila Okian, put pressure on the homesters through out the 90 minutes of one way traffic game.

Perhaps, the Volta ladies had a genuine case when they refused a request by the Queens to allow their number one goalkeeper, Mamunatu Sulemana to be in their goal as a way of training for the goalie.

However goalkeeper, Pricilla Tandoh who was in the post for the Legon ladies proved to be a good material when she stood between the Queens and a cricket score.

However after countless perfect saves by Tendoh she had no choice but to let in two quick goals in the 20th and 22nd minutes from Helena Arthure and Nana Ama Gymfua respectively.

The score line could not change the trend of the game, as the Legon Ladies were unable to even move past the centre line thereby giving goalkeeper Mohammed Fati, a complete holiday.

From recess, coach Oko Aryee introduced petit Florence Oko, SWAG best female footballer of the year and Hymdia Abass among others into the game to further deepen the woes of their opponents.

After the third goal in the 50th minutes by Hymdia, fans at the park who were unable to withstand the one way traffic game intervened by joining the action on the pitch whenever the Queens made incursion towards goal to prevent then from scoring.

Not even the persistent pleading from the men of the whistle could compel them to stop this actions and this forced them to stop the game prematurely.
