RTU pleads with Lepowura not to resign

Tamale, Oct. 30, GNA - The National Channels Committee (Supporters Union) of Real Tamale United has appealed to Lepowura Alhaji Nurudeen Jawula, Board Chairman of the Club not to relinquish his post.

They said RTU needed influential personalities who have the interest of the Club to lead it to continue to stay in the premiership and if such dedicated personalities like Lepowura Alhaji Jawula resigns or deserts the Club, unforeseen consequences are likely to impede the Club's progress and success.

Mr. Mohammed Aminu-Abio, spokesperson of the Channels Committee at a briefing with the media in Tamale on Monday alleged that certain top individuals within the Club want to "hijack" RTU for their personal gain and there was the need for such moves to be resisted.

He accused Alhaji Adam Munkaila and Alhaji Ibrahim Adam, both Board Members of the Club as among those contributing to the abysmal performance of the Club who should be made to distance themselves from affairs of RTU for ensure success of the Club.

Mr Aminu-Abio said supporters of RTU have appealed to the Club's Board of Directors to restructure the Management Committee, to specifically ensure the removal of Alhaji Adam and Alhaji Munkaila from the Management Committee.

He said the Board adhered to the call and restricted the activities of the two individuals to the Board, which led to the appointment of Mr. Malik Jabir as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and expressed disappointment that the two were still attached to the main running of the Club.

Mr. Amino-Abio also called on WIENCO, official sponsors of RTU to come out clearly about its sponsorship package to the Club to discard the notion that the sponsorship was being given to RTU because of certain individuals.

Alhaji Adam Munkaila in a reaction to the allegation and accusations told the GNA Sports in an interview that the coach as well as Malik Jabir were sacked based on the Board's decision as a result of to non-performance and that neither he or Alhaji Adam had any 'extra powers' more than the Board's to sack anybody. He explained that the Club was handed over to Malik Jabir to tackle technical issues but not to undertake administrative duties, adding that the contract expired in June this year and he and the coach have not as yet reapplied for renewal of their jobs.

Coach Papa Umar Tchiam, the RTU coach said he had not reapplied because he was given verbal assurance by the Board that his contract would be renewed, hence his decision not to write formally to the Club for renewal of his contract.

Rita heads Ghana Ladies Golf Union

Accra, Oct. 30, GNA - Mrs Rita Dzubey of the Achimota Golf Club was on Tuesday elected President of the Ghana Ladies Golf Union at its general meeting in Accra.

Mrs Florence Etwi-Barimah was elected the Vice President, Mrs Esther Antwi, Secretary, with the position of Treasurer going to Mrs Esi Cobbina while Mrs Suzie Abaloo-Kumassah was elected a House Member. Mrs Dzubey thanked the members for the confidence reposed in her and gave the assurance that the newly elected members would work diligently towards the success of the Union to popularise the sport in the country. She asked for the co-operation of all the members to enable them achieve the avowed aims of the Union. 30 Oct. 07
