RTU silence Arsenal at Kaladan Park

Tamale, Nov. 10, GNA - Two goals one by Peter Yakubu in the second minute of the first half and the other scored by Alhassan Weah through a spot kick in the 45th minute of the same half made RTU to silence Berekum Arsenal in the GT sponsored premier mid week league match played at the Kaladan Park on Wednesday.

The match started in a fast note with RTU determined to carry the day and scored the first goal in the second minute through fast improving Peter Yakubu who has, in recent time established himself as a potent goal poacher.

The goal came as a result of a quick move by Soale Yakubu, playing at the inside right position and centre forward Alhassan Weah, that created confusion between the Arsenal defence and their keeper, giving Yakubu an easy task to tap the ball into the net.

The goal gingered the RTU boys into more action as they launched full-scale attacks on the Berekum Boys, but erratic shooting at goal and sometime unnecessary delay in the opponent's 18 denied them more goals. RTU dominated the midfield and with some backing from the defence led by Alhassan Habib, Sabato and Nurudeen , the attackers sustained pressure on the Berekum boys but good goal keeping by the Arsenal goalie caused them from increasing the tally.

However, in the 45th minute Baba Mumuni was brought down by Samual Sowade, central defender of Arsenal in their penalty box when he was in a good position to score, resulting in a penalty while the referee issued the first yellow card to Sowade for the brutal attack. Weah elected himself and with no mistake converted the kick into the net to register RTU second goal, bringing the first to an end. After recess, Arsenal packed the mid-field with more players so that they do not conceded more goals, making it difficult for RTU to penetrate the defence.
