RTU throw in the towel

A board member of Real Tamale United Farouk Omar Issaka has taken a swipe at the club’s board and management for the woeful performance of the team in this season’s Ghana Premier League and concedes that the Pride of the North will not escape relegation.

The Tamale-based side made a swift return to the Premier League after going on relegation in the 2010-11 season, but since their return they have had a very difficult outing in the 16-team Ghanaian top flight league with just five points and yet to win a match in the 21-week-old league.

RTU are currently rooted to the bottom of the league log and Issaka said there is no way the club will avoid the drop this season and believes the board and management of the club are to be blamed for its current predicaments.

“For sure RTU will be relegated because we have not recorded any win yet and the five points can’t escape us from relegation. So as it stands now R.T.U. will be playing in the division one next season,” Issaka told GBC Sports.

“We have not been getting any financial support from the board members and the stakeholders and the management and technical team also did bad recruitments and that is our problem,” he said.

Issaka also admits that the club owes the players some money and that has also added to their woes this season.

He revealed: “Since we started we haven’t paid them their signing on fees and their last month salary which is March we couldn’t even pay up till now. We were managing the Glo Sponsors package money and I think the money have run out and we don’t even know how to travel away to play our away matches.”

Real Tamale United will travel to Cape Coast to play Ebusua Dwarfs in Week-22 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
