Rajevac 'very much interested' in Black Stars return

Former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac says he is very much interested in a return to the Black Stars fold in any capacity for the 2014 World Cup.

The Serbian trainer has been contacted by coach Kwesi Appiah over the possibility of joining Ghana’s backroom staff for the tournament which kicks off in June.

The 60-year-old remains a very popular figure in Ghana due to his impressive work while he was coach of the Black Stars between 2008-2010.

Rajevac led the Black Stars to the finals of the 2010 Nations Cup in Angola where he narrowly missed out on the title in a 1-0 defeat to Egypt.

He then followed it up with another impressive performance with the Black Stars months later at the 2010 World Cup where Ghana suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to Uruguay to miss out on an historic semi final spot in South Africa.

The Serbian’s intended return to the Black Stars team as a supporting cast to Kwesi Appiah’s backroom staff has however stirred huge controversy in Ghana.

Many have questioned the commitment of the former Qatar boss after ditching the Black Stars in the aftermath of the 2010 World Cup to sign a lucrative contract with Saudi club Al Ahli.

But Rajevac speaking through his trusted interpreter Nenad Glisic says the prospect of being part of another successful World Cup campaign in Brazil proves too strong a motivation to walk away from.

“He [Rajevac] is waiting for Kwasi [Appiah] if he will take him as an advisor but he is more than willing to help,” Glisic told Takoradi-based Melody FM. “So he [Rajevac] is waiting for the call in whatever capacity, he is ready to help.

“He enjoyed very good success four years ago in the World Cup with the Black Stars and now he is interested in doing that again.”

Rajevac is currently unemployed after being sacked for poor performance as coach of Qatar in 2011.
