Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Randy Abbey, has slammed the Youth and Sports Ministry over the deteriorating condition of the Ho Sports Complex.

After injecting 4 million USD into its construction, the Sports Complex has been left to rot having hosted the 2023 Independence Day celebration.

However, Dr Abbey, who is the host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV questioned why the sporting associations responsible for the stadium would construct such a facility only to neglect its maintenance over time.

The Heart of Lions financier also criticized the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other agencies for allowing the stadium, built with state funds, to fall into disrepair, thereby wasting public money.

He, however, wondered why those accountable for the stadium's upkeep still retain their jobs without facing any scrutiny.

“The Ho Sports Complex, which was used for Independence Day last year, has now turned into this state, even though it was built with taxpayers' money. The decision to put the facility there was made by some people who did the needs assessment and everything, but whatever went into it, we do not know.

"I am saying that how do you sink millions of dollars into something like this, and just after a year, this is what happened, and people still have their jobs?” he fumed.

In a video shared by sports journalist Saddick Adams on X, the pitch was overrun with weeds, covering most of the field.

Additionally, some seats had been removed while others are broken, giving the stadium a neglected and abandoned look.

The roofing and other parts of the stadium appear fragile, making it a hazardous location for any sporting event.
