Ghanaian defender Rashid Sumaila is fast becoming Rangers FC’s number one summer transfer target.

The 25-year old defender has become the toast of Al Gharafa supporters with his magnificent performances since joining from Kuwaiti outfit Al-Qadsia after four games into the season.

With six caps for the Black Stars, the Ghanaian has become a subject to a switch to the Scottish giants ever since his former coach at Al Gharafa Pedro Caixinha acknowledged his attributes during his first press conference with the Gers.

The Gers fans have since been following the progress of the versatile defender in the Qatari Premier League, and on Thursday after Al Gharafa defeated Al Jaish 2-1 in the league, some of the Rangers fans took to twitter to hail his performance.

Rangers would not have to pay any transfer fee for the player. He is reportedly out of contract at Al-Qadsia at the end of June, which means that the Gers will be able to snap him up on a free transfer.

Sumaila was voted as the side’s best player after the first round of the campaign.
