Referee Aval Mübarek Muhammed has become the first Ghanaian and African to officiate in Turkey.

The young referee made history when he was appointed by the Turkish Football Federation as an assistant referee in a lower division match.

Muhammed who arrived in Turkey in 2013 as a student where he studied nursing developed interest in refereeing in the cause of his studies in the European country.

“I am the first of the Ghanaian students in Turkey to come to Bolu, my Ghana friends always told me about this city because they did not know Bolu city or even they did not even know the name, so my friends started to say” Bolu ” they all call me Bolu instead of my real name,” he said.

Having completed his University education at the Abraham Izzet Baysal University, the ambitious young man will be aiming at taking his career to the next level in World Football.

He could be promoted to officiate in the Turkish top-flight should he maintain professionalism in his new-found career.
