The Referees Manager of the Ghana Football Association, Alex Kotey, has stated that referees must prepare themselves spiritually and mentally when they are appointed to officiate a game.

He believes that this is one of the ways referees in the local scene can ensure good games because they will be guided when they prepare themselves spiritually.

Controversies have surrounded the league towards the end of the season after what fans have witnessed and described as fixed matches, orchestrated by referees to prevent some teams from being relegated.

"Every referee must prepare themselves spiritually and mentally," Alex Kotey told Asempa, as monitored by footballghana.com.

"I was born on a Thursday. If I am supposed to officiate a game, on the Thursday before the game, I fast. When I fast, I receive many revelations that guide me on what to do. If I am going to the game, I know I have to do this and that, and I will do it," he explained.

"For the laws of the game, we will train you," he added.
