Regional Athletics Association inaugurates body

Accra, April 10, GNA - The Greater Accra Regional Sports Council on Monday, inaugurated a 15-member Executive body to help promote and develop athletics in the region.

The Executive Body is made up of professionals like economists, lawyers, journalists and businessmen.

They include Mr George Lutterodt, Mr Parker Yarney, Mr Ackah Anthony, Mr Mike Ahey and Mr E.K. Aryetey.

The rest are Mr J.K. Addy, Mr Charles Osei Assibey, Mr Daniel Kwaku Yeboah, Mrs Diana Heyman Adu and Mrs Rose Hart.

Prince Ernest Oduro-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC) said that the Council has the responsibility of ensuring harmony and development of sports.

He expressed the hope that with the present executive body, sports in the Greater Accra Region would stand tall in its various competition. The Chief Executive noted that the body has all the calibre of professionals to propel the association forward adding that "there are a good number of athletes around who would have to be assisted to develop their skills".

Prince Oduro-Mensah congratulated sportswriters for their co-operation with the Council and urged the writers not only to highlight on soccer but also on other disciplines like athletics. He called on the private sector to support the government in its efforts to raise the standards of sports in the country.
