Rehabilitate Kaladan — RTU appeal

THE management of Real Tamale United (RTU) has appealed to the government to rehabilitate the Tamale Kaladan Park to promote the development of sports in the northern region.

According to the "Pride of the North" the improvement of facilities at the park could also help in stemming the spate of hooliganism and other worrisome behaviour by some fans during football matches.

The Chairman of the club, Alhaji Ibrahim Adam, made the appeal at a reception organised for the management and players of RTU at Tamale.

The reception was organised at the instance of the northern regional minister Mr Ben Bukari Salifu at the residency.

Mr Adam said the rehabilitation of the park is long overdue and that it is now time for something concrete to be done to save football in the region from collapsing.

He said as a result of the poor nature of the park coupled with the lack of sitting place for fans during matches, a lot of supporters of the club and many lovers of football refuse to patronise matches and other sporting activities at the Kaladan.

Pressmen at times have to jostle with spectators to enable them to cover league matches due to the unavailability of appropriate sitting place.

The chairman said this situation is denying the club a lot of revenue and that, "we continue to lose huge sums of money during league matches simply because of the lack of seats".

For instance, he disclosed that, in their recent match against Sekondi Hasaacas, the club realised only ?17,000 as their net.

However he advised the playing body and supporters of the club to continue to be disciplined at all times and also give out their best in order that, they reap the fruits of their sweat.

Mr Adam thanked the minister and the club's sponsors, Wienco for the love and concern they continue to show for the welfare of RTU and urged others to emulate their examples.

The regional minister called on the people of the north to consider RTU as their own and rally behind it to win laurels for the area and the nation as a whole.
