Rejoice, Raphael grab best fighters awards in Norlympics Taekwondo competition

Eight-year-old Rejoice Da-Silveira and Raphael Yeboah brushed off competition from about 800 participants to emerge the best fighters in the Norlympics Taekwondo children championship.

The 6th edition of the competition held on Saturday among 26 schools at the Hathramani hall of the Accra Sports Stadium saw both fighters winning the best fighter in the female and male category.

Da- Silveira, a pupil of New Victory Star International and trains at the Da- Silveira taekwondo academy was awarded a mini washing machine and a medal for her efforts.

The father of the international Taekwondo fighter, Mr. Da-Silveira, who is also the founder of the Da-Silveira club in the Ashanti Region expressed joy about the performance of her daughter.

"I am not surprised at her performance because she has gone to Benin, Niger and other countries and won medals for the club. She has never let me down."

Yeboah, 7, from the Ghana Social taekwondo club in Kumasi was also awarded with a table top fridge and a medal for winning the best male fighter.

At the end of the competition, it was Ghana Social Taekwondo Club from Kumasi that won the overall best taekwondo team award.

The President of Norlympics, Mr. Norbert Amefu told the GNA Sports that his expectations in the championship was met and that he hopes to get sponsors for the two best fighters to enable them to represent Ghana at the World Children Taekwondo competition in Korea in December this year.
