Retired Footballers congratulate Appiah on Stars appointment

The Retired National Footballers Association of Ghana (RENFAG), has congratulated Kwasi Appiah on his appointment as the head coach of the Black Stars.

A statement issued and signed by Alhaji Ibrahim Sunday, Chairman of the Association copied to GNA Sports, offered their support to Appiah during his tenure to ensure he succeeds in his high office.

“We will like to extend our well wishes for a successful tenure in guiding the Black Stars. Your resilient and professional character throughout your career, as both a player and coach speaks volumes of your achievement in both capacities.

“We are solidly supportive of you, not only your achievement but also because you are one of our own,” Alhaji Sunday said.

Appiah was three weeks ago confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as the substantive head coach of the Stars replacing Serbian Goran Stevanovic, who was fired after the Black Stars' dismal performance at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The 51-year old becomes the first indigenous coach in almost a decade to assume the technical reigns of the senior national team, the Black Stars.**
