The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has announced the appointment of Mr Magnus Rex Danquah as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the CAN 2008 Ghana Local Organising Committee (LOC)
Mr Danquah will be in charge of the day-to-day administration of the LOC Secretariat and ensuring the implementation of the LOC Board's approved programmes relating to public relations, marketing and organisational strategies, fundamental to ensuring a successful tournament as well as showcase Ghana globally as a most preferred destination for sport tourism.
A product of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mr Danquah is the chief executive officer of RICS Consult Limited, a PR, Media and Sports Tourism Management Consultancy firm.
Besides editing various works, weekly sports and current affairs newspapers, brochures on sports, business, arts, trade and tourism, he has also provided PR/Sports Marketing Consultancy service for a number of leading private and public institutions.
He has been a resource person at various OAU- sponsored workshops and seminars on Africa's Cultural Industries, and was the rapporteur-general as well as speaker at the OAU-UNESCO meeting of Experts on Cultural Industries held in Nairobi, Kenya.
Mr Danquah also initiated the successful planning, hosting and organisation of the first Pan-African Fair for Arts and Music (PAFAM 1990), the first privately initiated fair in Ghana which was supported by the OAU.
He was for several years host of GTV Sport Digest programme, secretary to the organising committee of SCSA Zone III Football Championship hosted in Ghana (1986) and the coordinator for Ghana 99, the 11th African Youth Football Championship also hosted by the nation.
It is the expectation of the Ministry that Mr Danquah who was the coordinating director of Ghana's successful CAN 2008 bid campaign will bring his wealth of experience, depth of knowledge and managerial acumen to bare on the day-to-day operations of the CAN 2008 Ghana Local Organising Committee (LOC) Secretariat towards the attainment of the LOC mission.
